Happy birthday to our dear friend and uber talented, Rosevelt Sings! As a Childhelp Ambassador, she dedicated her birthday to raising money and awareness for Childhelp.org. Guests were treated to a spectacular concert, great comedy, and touching a touching presentation about how we can help this great organization stop child abuse and neglect.
5 children die every day because of abuse or neglect. That’s #5toomany. Rosevelt has asked that we all participate by posting a photo on social media with a heart on your hand, tag 5 friends and @childhelp with the hashtag #5toomany and #roseveltschallenge and make a donation to child help.org/5toomany.
Spring for Charity 2018 – Highlights
Thank you again to everyone who participated this year and for the past 10 years.
We have loved giving back to local charities in Arizona and appreciate all the support over the years.
In the past 10 years we have raised over $12,000 for the following charities:
JDRF, Down Syndrome Network, Autism Society, G-Force Performing Arts, Child’s Crisis Center, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, The Children’s Museum of Phoenix, AZ Helping Hands and NotmyKid.
We are so excited for our 9th Annual Spring for Charity event tomorrow and Saturday here at the studio! This year, we are raising money and awareness for Arizona Helping Hands.
AZ Helping Hands is the ONLY organization that provides basic essential needs to boys and girls in foster care. They provide a safe place to sleep, clothing diapers, holiday and birthday gifts, back to school supplies and more.
AZ Helping Hands is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and qualifies for the AZ Foster Tax Credit. You can receive a dollar for dollar tax credit on your AZ State tax return of up to $1,000.
In addition to monetary donations, AZ Helping Hands is always looking for volunteers to help hold collection drives and put together holiday and birthday kids.
Their basic needs include twin beds or cribs (and all linens), diapers, clothing, dream kits (personal hygiene kits), birthday dream kits (birthday party in a bag), books, back to school backpacks and supplies, and toys.
I was in awe of this warehouse and how well it is run and organized. Please take a moment to learn more about how they are making a difference in our community and how you can help too.
Just wanted to share our exciting news as we have finished our 7th Annual Spring for Charity Event. This year, we are thrilled to announce that we were able to raise $850 for 2 local Charities, Down Syndrome Network and the Children’s Museum of Phoenix. With over 60 kids, 5 chicks and 1 bunny, smiles and fun were abundant. Thank you to the Children’s Museum for being such gracious hosts on Saturday during our event. We are so thrilled to make these charity donations this year and we are so grateful for all of the support we have received in the community.

Each year we like to reach out to clients, friends, and family to recommend a charity for us to consider. We were touched by Laney and Jerry Burns story and would love to share their experience:
After a long, exhausting round of In Vitro Fertilization and many sleepless nights, we were presented with a positive pregnancy test! We were certain that this new addition to our family was going to be perfect! We went back and forth during the pregnancy wondering what would be the name that could capture her spirit the way she so quickly captured our hearts. Finally we knew…her name would be Veda! Pictures soon became a way that we came to know little Veda. Starting with her ultrasound and through Laney’s maternity pictures, we started to see her personality shine through. We could see her smiling in Laney’s belly, itching to get out into the world where we were waiting to love her with everything we had. What we didn’t know is that she was a fighter…a baby who was fighting to live. A few weeks before her due date, Laney experienced a feeling that something was wrong so she went to the hospital. On June 30, 2013, we lost our beautiful baby girl. Her name is Veda Lourdes Burns. She weighed 4lbs 14oz and was 18.5 in. long. Veda had a full head of black hair, long fingers, a button nose and pouty lips that surely would have given her Daddy all kinds of future problems. Although her tiny heart gave out at 36 weeks gestation, Veda left an indelible mark on our hearts that will never, ever fade. Our pregnancy had been going according to plan, so this sudden loss left us stunned, grieving and searching for meaning. Several weeks after Veda’s passing we learned that she had a Robertsonian Translocation, a form of Downs Syndrome. It was then that we finally knew just how truly special and beautiful Veda was on this earth and above. The outpouring of prayers and comfort we received from our family and friends, particularly other parents of children with Down Syndrome, was incredible. We quickly learned that we were not alone and that had Veda survived, she would have been surrounded by a loving and supportive community. A few months after Veda’s passing, we participated in the Down Syndrome Buddy walk. We will never forget the sense of belonging we felt watching these beautiful and amazing kids!

We are THRILLED to announce our 6th annual SPRING FOR CHARITY. This photographic event with live chicks and bunnies has raised over $6000 for local charities in the Valley. With the help of our amazing clients, we really are making a difference in the lives of local children and families.
Last year was a HUGE success at the Children’s Museum of Phoenix. We are so excited to be invited back again this year. The museum has offered free admission to all photographed children on Thursday, March 27th, so plan to stay and play! The money raised at our Thursday sessions will be donated to the Museum’s Every Child Program.
The part I like best about SPRING FOR CHARITY is that every location or charity we choose have a close tie to one or more of our clients – and all charities we select to work with must give back to children or families in our community. In the past, we have raised money for the Child Crisis Center, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the Children’s Museum of Phoenix Every Child’s Program.
This year, I’m so proud to be working with The Autism Society of Greater Phoenix for our second charity. The money raised during our Friday , March 28th sessions will be donated to The Autism Society of Greater Phoenix. Our client, favorite make-up artist, and friend, Gina Schroeder, reached out to present this fabulous organization for our consideration. Here’s her story:
Parents think all their kids are special but I knew from the day I brought my son Brendan home from the hospital he was going to be extra special. But I had no idea the journey he was about to take us on. Brendan by the age of 5 months suffered from severe food allergies. He is allergic to gluten, soy, dairy, eggs, peanuts, artificial flavoring, citric acid, red dye & tomatoes. Starting at 5 months old I noticed he would twirl his hands and feet a lot. He never cooed like a baby and he rarely looked at anyone when they would walk into the room. By the time he was 10 months old it was clear to us that Brendan was different. At 11 months old Brendan began speech and occupational therapy. Unfortunately he showed zero progress. At 13 months old Brendan was diagnosed with severe Autism Spectrum Disorder. We felt like we had just been punched in the gut. From that moment our lives have completely changed. We went through the grieving stage, the why us stage and then we came to accept the diagnoses. We were not going to let autism define our little boy. I spent countless hours reading everything I could about Autism. Feeling overwhelmed would have been an understatement. I was finding that being diagnosed so young was extremely rare and many people just didn’t know what to do with a child his age. I had decided that I was going to fight. I wasn’t going to let anybody tell me my son couldn’t get the help he needed. In the middle of my fight I met a women named Trisha who was also a mom of a child with severe autism. She also was on the board of a local group called Autism Society of Greater Phoenix. Little did I know that Trisha and the Autism Society of Greater Phoenix would soon be my Guardian Angels. Everyone in the group has a child on the spectrum. They have helped my family in more ways then I can even describe. They have been there for me emotionally. They have helped me to understand and cope with Brendan’s food allergies. They have helped me get into the best doctors. I honestly don’t know what I would have done without their support. There is a lot of national autism support but to have the kind of help I got from a local group has been the biggest blessing to my families fight with autism!
